Eternity’s Tomb by Dan Moren – Review

Eternity’s Tomb – Dan Moren (ARC Review)

Thanks to NetGalley and Angry Robot Books for providing me with this Advanced Reading Copy.

One word for this book. Awesome.

I went into this one completely blind, with only a vague notion that it was a sci-fi book. What I got was a fantastic read that I ended up finishing in just two sittings.

How would I describe it? If Firefly and Indiana Jones had a baby, it would look something like this.

We have a ragtag group of former friends and new acquaintances who set off to find and raid an ancient tomb belonging to a long-dead species. The catch? The tomb is travelling through space, hurtling towards a supermassive black hole at its centre.

The characters are what really make this story, though.

Our protagonist, Z, is an ex-soldier who, at the start of the story, is paroled early from prison by a creature called Ayex, who is quite literally a floating brain in a jar. Ayex offers Z a job: find the lost tomb of Ikanto.

Naturally, Z needs a crew and a ship.

He sets off and recruits some old friends, starting with Trix, his ex-girlfriend and a ship captain who has literally melded her brain with the onboard AI of her ship. So effectively, she is the ship.

Then there’s Graham, a giant Ursine (in my head, I’m picturing a giant Ewok), and lastly, my favourite character, Whistler: a genetically bred assassin bird who has hands instead of talons and an endless supply of knives.

Seriously, Whistler is one of the best sci-fi characters ever.

When our ragtag crew eventually finds the tomb, this is where the Indiana Jones portion really kicks in, with lots of classic tomb puzzles and traps to overcome. As the story progresses, we also get to see Z finally begin to emotionally mature.

I had an absolute blast with this book. It’s packed with adventure, brilliant characters, humour and just the right amount of sci-fi weirdness. It’s one of those books that grabs you, keeps you entertained from start to finish and leaves you wanting more. I was particularly pleased to discover that there’s potentially more to come in this series because I would happily jump straight back into this universe.

This was my first Dan Moren book, but it certainly won’t be my last. If you enjoy space adventures, ragtag crews, ancient mysteries and a healthy dose of Indiana Jones-style tomb raiding, then I wholeheartedly recommend picking this one up.

An easy 5 out of 5 stars

Eternity’s Tomb releases on November 24th 2026.
