Thanks to NetGalley and The Lab Press for the advanced review copy of Super Science Vol. 1 (The Lab Portable Edition).
I’d never heard of this series before, but it’s built around a really interesting concept.
For five days, the sky turns amethyst and the limits of human imagination disappear. Scientific experts around the world begin making spectacular breakthroughs, resulting in shrink rays, holographic bodies, human-animal hybrids and Thor-like beings whose farts can melt skin. Naturally, the city soon fills with supervillains.
To tackle the threat, two police officers are trained to use a weapon called a thumper, which can debilitate villains. They’re assigned a crusty old police captain and formed into a task force to take them down.
At first, I didn’t really vibe with the story, but around 50 pages in, I started to enjoy it much more. This volume clearly sets up a larger narrative, and I hope The Lab Press continues with it.
The writing by N Alessandro K, along with the art and colouring by M K Perker and Adam Guzowski, is excellent and gels together really well.
I’m happy to give this book 4 out of 5 stars and look forward to the next volume.
